TERRA is a handwoven Pashmina shawl crafted in Srinagar, Kashmir, featuring intricate Sozni needlework arranged in a traditional all-over Jaal composition. Its name draws inspiration from the natural, earthy character of terracotta, reflected in the shawl’s rich brown palette.
Woven from 100% Pashmina, the shawl features an earthy brown base adorned with delicate, interconnected floral vines, fine leaves and paisley-inspired motifs. Embroidered in contrasting shades of ivory, muted blue and soft sage, the continuous Jaal pattern creates an intricate composition across the surface while preserving the natural softness, warmth and fluid drape of Pashmina.
Inspired by the grounded, timeless character of earth-toned materials, TERRA brings together the richness of its brown palette and the precision of traditional Sozni embroidery. Each botanical motif flows into the next, reflecting the delicate artistry of Kashmiri Jaal craftsmanship and creating a refined expression of colour, texture and heritage.

What Sets TERRA Apart
The Intricacy of Traditional Sozni
TERRA features delicate Sozni needlework, a traditional Kashmiri embroidery technique distinguished by its fine stitches and intricate motifs. Slender floral vines, miniature leaves and paisley-inspired forms are carefully embroidered across the Pashmina, reflecting the precision and patience required to create its detailed surface. The intricate needlework introduces subtle texture while preserving the natural softness and fluidity of the handwoven fabric.
An Interconnected Floral Jaal Composition
Unlike compositions where motifs are arranged individually, TERRA features a continuous Jaal pattern in which winding vines and delicate botanical elements connect across the fabric. Embroidered in contrasting shades of ivory, muted blue and soft sage, the intricate floral network unfolds against a rich brown base. Each motif forms part of a larger composition, creating a sense of continuity and movement while allowing the natural character of the Pashmina to remain visible.
The Earthy Depth of Brown
Named in reference to the natural warmth and grounded character of terracotta, TERRA draws its identity from the richness of its distinctive brown hue. The colour evokes the depth of natural earth pigments, lending an understated elegance to the handwoven Pashmina. Cooler shades of ivory, muted blue and soft sage introduce a gentle contrast, balancing the depth of the brown base with the delicacy of its botanical embroidery.
Together, the earthy palette and intricate Sozni craftsmanship create a harmonious expression of Kashmiri textile heritage, where traditional artistry meets a refined contemporary sensibility.

How can I recognise the handmade details?
The beauty of handcrafted Pashmina lies in its individuality. Subtle variations in the weave, texture and colour are natural characteristics of traditional handloom craftsmanship, making every piece unique.
Depending on the design, you may discover intricate Sozni hand embroidery, traditional Kani weaving or other heritage techniques, each reflecting the remarkable skill and patience of Kashmiri artisans.
Can I test its authenticity at home?
We do not recommend home authenticity tests, such as burning fibres or relying on the ring test, as these methods can damage delicate Pashmina and produce misleading results.
At IndusWeavers, we believe authenticity begins with transparency. If you would like to learn more about the materials, craftsmanship or origin of a particular piece, our team will be delighted to assist you.
